Dilara Asardag

Currently, I work as a doctoral researcher in communication sciences at Tampere University. My doctoral project aims to comprehend to what extent and how does queer/feminist online/offline activism and cultures of visibility against gender-based violence and their various entangled performative articulations are expanding the space of politics in Turkey. Moreover, to what extent this feminist activism is facing hindrances such as disinformation, misogynist, homophobic, and transphobic backlash as well as surveillance, censorship, and algorithmic discrimination. In addition, I attempt to comprehend different forms of performative artistic interventions online and offline as well. Justice and equality are important components of my work. As an intersectional/transfeminist social media researcher, my research interests revolve around bodily autonomy, agency, empowerment, power dynamics, the usage of social media for resistance practices as well as social media content moderation. In my photography and heels dance practice, I get inspired from these themes as well and consider myself a creative thinker and doer- an artist/activist scholar. Moreover, I have a broad interest in creativity, creative labor and the urban life as it pertains to arts- especially, performing arts (dance & acting), visual cultures (especially photography), fashion, cinema and nightlife and their transformation through digital media.
