Anna Kozonina
Anna Kozonina is a performing arts researcher, dance writer, dramaturg and educator based in Helsinki. As well as obtaining an MA in Political Science and Linguistics, she studied dance history and performance theory and holds an arts MA from Aalto University. Since 2017 she has been analyzing pieces by emerging and established European choreographers, researching the new post-soviet dance scene (the book on the topic in the Russian language was published in 2021), and diving into somatic discourses in contemporary dance, which she observes from critical and political perspectives. She is currently researching the phenomenon of “audience engagement” merging artistic, theoretical and art mediation practices to learn how contemporary dance and performance can reinvent their relationships with audiences and create spaces for meaningful artistic-audience exchange that allow for diversity and productive tension. She collaborated with institutions and festivals across Europe including Impulstanz, Norrlandsoperan, Moving in November, Baltic and Nordic Dance Platforms, Rail2Dance project, etc. She is also a regular contributor at Springback Magazine (Aerowaves EU network project) where she mainly analyzes contemporary dance in the Nordics and works to enhance Finnish dance scene’s visibility in the European context.
