Mohamed Louanjli is a Moroccan-born Australian visual artist, photographer, art director, graphic designer, teacher, and entrepreneur based in Helsinki. With a background in graphic design and photography, Louanjli has worked for prominent agencies and publications in Australia where he also taught in design schools and lectured on a sessional capacity at the Queensland College of Art. Louanjli holds a PhD from Griffith University, a Master of Visual Studies from the Sorbonne and an MFA from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He also has an experience in aviation studies as a pilot. Louanjli’s artistic practice evolves around aerial photography, algorithms, generative art and sound. As a New Media artist, his realisations are shaped by computational aesthetics and academic research exploring the impact of the digital universe, microprocessors and speed on the human condition. Louanjli’s study references the works of Gottfried Leibniz, Gilles Deleuze, Paul Virilio, Philippe Quéau, John Maeda and Lev Manovich. Louanjli is a student of Philippe Oudard, Michel Salsmann, Debra Porch, and Gérard Pelé who remains his primary mentor in aesthetics. Louanjli’s achievements include the Australian Postgraduate Award, The Gerald Frank Brown scholarship and the Maurice Colin-Lefranc Prize. He had exhibitions in France, Australia, the UK and Finland.
