On 21th and 22nd of April 2022, Globe Art Point, in close cooperation with Luckan Helsingfors, is organising a two-day art summit with an aim to create a fresh dialogue between all actors of the Finnish arts and culture scenes.
GAP ART SUMMIT is a series of actionable, inclusive events and workshops, both in-person and online, focused on the livelihoods of artists, cultural workers and other professionals living and working in Finland. The emphasis of programming is on deepening the knowledge of the increasing diversity of the Finnish arts and culture scenes with a strong focus on professional and career development, self-empowerment, and community building.
Discussions will feature Finnish cultural policy makers and leaders from institutions as well as independent professionals representing associations and art and culture organisations. The programme will include talks, panel discussions and highly interactive sessions addressing many of the unique opportunities and challenges faced while building a more equal and inclusive art and culture scene.

Strategies Forming the Future
10:15 – 11:45
The art summit will be initiated by a key-note session featuring representatives from ministries, municipalities and the City of Helsinki as well as the central funding bodies of the Finnish arts and culture scene.
Education, HR and Employment
12:00 – 13:30
The panel is introducing various talent boost programmes by ministries and universities that work towards inclusion within the arts and culture sector producing sustainable practises that aim to attract and essentially retain international talent in Finland. This talk will be supported by analysis done by professional researchers. To bring another perspective to this topic, students and young professionals will spice up this discussion by expressing and envisioning their career expectations. To conclude, we will mention some of the HR practises that sometimes discriminate against applicants with foreign-backgrounds and other marginalised groups.
Towards Inclusive Leadership in the Nordic Art Field

The panel is arranged by the Nordic Network for Norm Critical Leadership in cooperation with Culture for All Service. The aim of the Nordic Network for Norm Critical Leadership is to generate new knowledge and new norm critical practises and governance for the cultural field.

The clinic is run by the highly skilled Diversity Agents. In this interactive presentation, Diversity Agents will be on location to directly work with arts & culture organisations to support the implementation of anti-racist practices into their work place.

Trade Fair Networking Session

A gathering of art and culture associations, unions, collectives and other organisations such as independent galleries, cultural spaces and other exhibition and event spaces based in the Helsinki Metropolitan area. The fair serves as a means of promotion and gaining recognition as participants can meet potential collaborators and industry partners, examine opportunities, study their activities and showcase their latest services and programmes.

Equal Opportunities in Children’s Culture

What are the current cultural barriers that prevent children in Finland from learning and developing on an equal level? What can we do to improve these existing structures to ensure that equality and diversity is also present in children’s art and culture? In this panel discussion, we discuss the accessibility and diversity within children’s culture from the institutional, municipal and pedagogical point of view.
Fair Pay in Art and Culture

How often have you been offered visibility for your hard work? Have you ever done a gig or an exhibition in exchange for material goods; posters, event tickets or lunch? In this panel, freelance creatives and cultural producers revisit their experiences from “voluntary” work in the art and culture field and discuss the vulnerable situation many foreign-born professionals find themselves in in order to be hired or seen. A Taike officer will also introduce their Fair Art Campaign.
Culturally Sustainable Finland

The workshop presents a dialogue tool that supports cultural diversity and sustainable development. The tool provides your organisation with practical support for reforming work community practises and observing cultural diversity and equality, both in training events and in developing the working life. During the workshop we can together test, for example, how we succeed in making our organisation a welcoming community for colleagues from different cultural backgrounds.
Meet Helsinki Cultural Houses

Helsinki is so much more than just the city centre! Join the session and get to know all about the cultural houses located in the outskirts and the suburban neighbourhoods of Helsinki. In total, four cultural houses (Vuotalo, Kanneltalo, Stoa and Malmitalo) including Savoy theatre will introduce themselves and explain what opportunities they offer to artists and creatives. Short introductions will be followed by one-on-one sessions where participants can ask questions and network with the professionals representing the cultural houses.
Imagining Futures in the Finnish Arts and Culture Scene

Let’s dream about the future together. Do you see utopia happening? Or do you think that the future of the arts and culture scene is doomed? In this session, the Tampere Intercultural Art collective (TIcA) leads a debate and together with the audience imagines futures in the Finnish arts and culture scene.

Luckan – the Finland-Swedish information and cultural centre in Helsinki – is a private operator serving the population of the capital region of Finland and representing the Finland-Swedish culture and society within the region.
