United States native Stephen Webb is a composer and artist currently based in Helsinki, Finland. He has been active in both the concert and gallery setting, staging works in various venues such as Chicago’s New Blood Performance Festival and the Sounding Now Festival in Singapore. As a composer, he has worked with ensembles such as the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Chamber Choir, Zodiac Trio and the Defunensemble. Artistic collaborations have included interdisciplinary dance work Performing Perception (Aalto Stage, 2020) as a sound designer and as a sculptor for Iskuin (Flow Festival, 2016.)
In 2021, he will show his collaborative monologue opera Radical Angels at the 14th Baltic Triennial in Vilnius, Lithuania. Other recent showings have taken place at the 1646 Project Space, Kitara Nova Music Festival, Helsinki Music Centre, and the Sibelius Hall.
Webb is currently a co-producer of the Cosmopolite Music project organized in collaboration with the US-based Bowery Trio. The project seeks to find and commission composers from diverse backgrounds to feature at free and accessible
audience-centered concerts.
Stephen holds a Master of Music in composition from the Sibelius Academy and has studied live art and performance at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Theatre Academy in Helsinki.
