Ivonne Carlos

Ivonne Carlos (1980-) is a specialist in literature and feminist studies, cultural activist, workshop facilitator and writer. She was born in the largest state of Mexico on the border with the United States, from which she was exiled when a war broke out in her city in 2006. Recently, she came to live in Finland (2021). Her work has always been linked to social issues and she has carried out community projects closely related to the places where she has lived. Has published comics, narrative, and poetry. Co-organizer of a famous Ladyfest (Juarez 2015) that brought together artists from the USA, Mexico and Spain. Won the Migrant Woman: Tell Me Your Story Award for Writing (2018). Her collective Palabras de Arena, of which she was one of the founders and was active for more than a decade, was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) for 4 consecutive years in Sweden. Alumni of the International Visitor Leadership Program by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Her children’s book “My mom was a guerrilla woman” is about to be published. Since 2015, has been monitoring and mapping femicides committed in her hometown.
