Open Call for a G.A.P Pop-Up Exhibition
OPEN CALL FOR A GAP POP-UP EXHIBITION
The Merirasti Chapel, located on the edge of Meri-Rastila Square, has been operating as a cultural venue since September 2023. The venue is part of an urban renewal project aimed at strengthening the region’s identity and increasing resident participation by leveraging the expertise of culture and arts professionals. Managed by the Story Sharing Universum, the space hosts local community projects as well as multicultural initiatives produced by invited organisations. Globe Art Point is one of the organisations invited to utilise the space for the benefit of its members and the local community.
In the period between November 14th and December 19th, 2024, the Merirasti Chapel will host a pop-up exhibition featuring members of the GAP Creatives Database. The exhibition will be a reflection on technology, language, power, and a promised equitable future exploring the theme of Technophilia and ‘new’ society.
-Is technology helping us to make a better and fair life for everyone? Is our well-being, health, and happiness increasing in parallel with the development of technology? How well are we connected compared to the old society? Can the subaltern yet speak, communicate, paint, make art, play music…? How is Power related to Technology, and how is it used by technocrats and states? All these questions on ethics, philosophy, sociology, and related topics could be the basis of reflection for the artist’s proposal to our Open Call. The broader and universal character of the theme invites a wide range of artists working on current topics such as AI, social media, words and conceptual art without excluding the more standard subjects, mediums, and other forms of expression that deal with Technology, Language, Power, and the Future.
Artists are encouraged to submit works in various media, including paintings, sculptures, visual poetry, multimedia art, moving images, and sound installations. Light art is particularly encouraged. As a part of this call, we are also searching for 1- 2 artistic performances to take place at the exhibition opening. The performances should also touch on the exhibition theme
The selected artists are going to be paid a symbolic fee of 150€ for their participation in the exhibition.
Priority will be given to artists who live or work in Rastila and Eastern Helsinki.
