On the leap day February 29th 2024, Globe Art Point and the Uniarts’ Project for Teak’s International Alumni (TIAN), co-hosted by Teak’s Alumni Association,  will host an event focused on discussing the rights of international artists, with a particular emphasis on those from overseas. This event aims to delve into the legal aspects surrounding immigration issues and the working realities faced by foreign-born artists in Finland.

The event will commence with a panel discussion, offering insights from experienced professionals in legal matters pertaining to immigration and the practicalities of working as an international artist. Following the panel discussion, there will be a networking session providing attendees with an opportunity to engage, share experiences, and build connections.

In the final two hours of the event, we will facilitate Legal Clinics tailored for individuals with specific questions related to their immigration status, artistic practice, and other concerns linked to the upcoming legislative changes anticipated in 2025. These Legal Clinics will provide a platform for one-on-one discussions with lawyers, offering personalised guidance and support. 

The event is free of charge and organised in English language.

Legal Clinics 15:00 – 17:00

The Legal Clinics are an opportunity for individuals to meet professional lawyers with an expertise in the cultural field to discuss a specific concern or issue that is related to their immigration or employment status. You might want to discuss how your situation is going to change in case certain laws come into play with the new legislation or how your business/freelance work/career might get affected with the proposed legislative changes. Each session is handled with absolute confidentiality.

To be eligible to attend our Legal Clinic – you must register and submit your burning question for the lawyer beforehand. Please remember, THE LEAP is focused on the rights and realities of foreign born artists in Finland so your question must be related to the topic of the event. Random questions for the clinic will not be taken into consideration. Also, please keep in mind that this is a one-off opportunity to meet with our lawyers. You will not be able to make a follow up meeting to discuss your question further so make sure you make the most out of your 15 minutes and focus on the matters that are bugging you the most.
