ETHICAL GUIDELINES FOR THE ART AND CULTURE SECTOR
ETHICAL GUIDELINES FOR THE ART AND CULTURE SECTOR
Forum Artis has drawn up ethical guidelines for the field of art and culture to facilitate the self-regulation of the field, as commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Culture during 1.8.2021-31.12.2022. The guidelines start from the assumption that everyone operating in the field complies with the relevant legislation related to each event, collaboration or work of art.
The guidelines deal with ethically-weighted choices and the treatment of different parties. The guidelines include links to all the ethical guidelines in use in the art field that are known to the authors. These have also been used to prepare the guidelines.
The guidelines are intended to pre-empt possible problems and to help create good practices. By verbalizing possible problems and difficulties, we aim to increase knowledge and strengthen good operations. At the same time, the aim is to build bridges between different actors, art forms, generations, population groups, and all other groups involved in making art.
The guidelines being published now are a pilot version. Experiences during the first year (2023) will be collected and feasibility-tested, and a list of possible changes will then be compiled.
The work was completed with the assistance of theology student Juho Peura and the steering group:
Virpi Hämeen-Anttila, Chairman of the Board, Forum Artis
Hanna Fontana, HR manager, Finnish National Opera and Ballet
David Kozma, actor and director
Aura Lehtonen, lawyer, Artists’ Association of Finland
Henrik Rydenfelt, docent of practical philosophy and communication, University of Helsinki
Jenni-Juulia Wallinheimo-Heimonen, textile and concept artist
The guidelines focus on 4 key areas:
- The Freedom and Responsibility
- Parity and Equality
- Interaction and Cooperation
- Working
