The Rebel Feminine exhibition explores everyday experiences as a woman in the world through rebellion and anger. The works are inspired by my own experiences and those of my close circle, where the feminine struggles to receive the respect, acceptance, and safety it deserves. Seeking that space to exist amidst masculine hardness provokes a rebellion that refuses to conform to a patriarchal society.
“As a woman who has worked for years in a male-dominated art subgenre, I have had to develop a tough shell to hide my softer, more feminine side. I think that’s how I’ve tried to make everything easier for everyone. Working in a public space as a woman also means receiving different treatment from people. Sometimes you get sexually harassed, touched without permission, asked to come wash cars, or stalked and followed when you leave work. With Rebel Feminine, I want to reflect the difficult and complex emotions involved and reveal the raw side of these daily experiences that often go unnoticed by many people around feminine individuals.”
Viivi “Viv Magia” Vierinen is a street artist, visual artist, and dancer who works internationally. She loves to paint large, colourful murals and enjoys implementing interdisciplinary collaborations. Her magical and realistic style is characterised by vibrant combinations of colours and psychedelic shapes. Magia is infinitely inspired by the mystique of nature, cultural diversity, activism for equality, and deeply felt emotions.
Hundreds of murals and artworks by Viv Magia can be found all over the world. She has toured numerous festivals such as Roskilde and Meeting of Styles and has participated in various exhibitions in Europe and Latin America. Her artworks are in private collections, restaurants, and institutions like schools and prisons. In 2023, her team won a vote to paint Finland’s most famous mural, which measures 400 m².
